Liberec Important centre of the Jizera mountains. First mention is from the year 1352. Major growth the town experienced
thanks to drapery and later textile production. In the centre there is a historic town zone. The important buildings
of the town are the renaisance chateau from 1587 or new chateau from 1776. The 17th century half-timber houses in
Vetrna street are the oldest in town. The museum buiding dates from the end of the 19th century. The New town hall,
the dominanting feature of the town, was built in the style of the northern renaisance in the years 1888-93. The most
important of the ecclesiastical buildings is the baroque church of the Holy Rood of 1753-61 and the deanīs church of
St. Anthony of 1588, now neo-gothic. Liberec has a number of other sanctuaries. The architecture of the town is
determined by hunderts of houses and villas of the 19th century and early 20th century.
Liberec is an important tourist and skiing centre of the region. In the town, there is a Botanical garden from the year 1876 with a unique collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. Zoological garden founded in 1904 is the oldest in the Czech Republic. ZOO Liberec Expanded systematically since first created in 1904, the Liberec Zoological Garden now stretches across an area of 15
hectares. Here visitors can see 170 species of fauna, the most remarkable of which are birds of prey, Rothschild
giraffes, snow leopards, lion macaques, Humboldt penguins and white tigers.
Botanical Garden LiberecFounded in 1876, these gardens boast a spectacular collection of orchids in bloom all year round, carnivorous plants, the oldest camellias in Europe, and the oldest bonsai tree cultivated in Europe, in addition to a number of aquaria and vivaria. Altogether, visitors can feast their eyes on as many as 7 500 species of tropical and subtropical flora on display in the gardensī hothouses and 1 500 plant species in their outdoor areas. The gardensī individual pavilions contain collections of tropical plants from countries of the Old and New World and Australia, in addition to cacti and carnivorous plants. Moreover, they boast smaller but no less attractive collections of plants such as ferns, including their giant species, and tropical water lillies, for example the Royal Victoria.Babylon Liberec The Babylon centre is unique location for family leisure time and belongs amongst the most important tourist
attractions in the town. It is a large covered complex covering the site of a old factory. This centre seems like
" the town under one cover". The main tourist attraction of Babylon is Aquapark - the first in the Czech republic. It
has a system of swimming pools, water slides and other attractions, saunas, massage, steam baths, whirlpools, caves,
aquariums, palms and an outdoor terrace. There are also 3 restaurants in the Aquapark and therefore visitors can stay
there the whole day. Among the other attractions of Babylon are Lunapark - many childrenīs attractions (childrenīs
corner, jungle gym). The laser games are a favourite. In complex Babylon visitors can visit the Shopping centre with
more than 60 shops, where street lamps create the illusion of a town whitin the town. Parents can leave their children
to play in the inflatable childrenīs castle in the care of special attendants and go shopping. Sport fans can use
modern the bowling alley and young people can visit discos that take place every day.
